Caterpillar: Who are YOU?

Alice: This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. I — I hardly know, sir, just at present — at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.

The Duchess: I quite agree with you. And the moral of that is: Be what you would seem to be, or if you’d like it put more simply: Never imagine yourself not to be otherwise than what it might appear to others that what you were or might have been was not otherwise than what you had been would have appeared to them to be otherwise.

Oh how I know what you mean Alice!  We spend so much of life trying to figure out who we are, only to change who we were in the process.  I’ve decided to stop looking for myself and let myself start looking for me awhile.  I’ll probably get lost along the way so I’ll leave a trail of crumbs along the way.

So the real question is….Am I a tulip or a daisy?!

I wish I had more to say lately, but I just don’t.  Everything is hanging in limbo and I am trying to have patience.  I kinds of feel my garden babies are feeling the same way.  So many are still hanging around in pots, eagerly awaiting a new home.  Without breaking into tears and regaling a sob story, I just am ready to move.  Having to spin back and forth is making the week days really suck, and general motivation to get the everyday things done is becoming a hard thing to muster.

Until then, I  and the plants will just have to stay watered and appreciate the sunshine.  My poor peppers and tomatoes are having survival confusion.  One day, they look great, and I even have some peppers and tomatoes harvesting now.  Yet, some days they look as if they are ready to hand themselves over to the wind, and bugs.  Some really are looking really straggly.  I haven’t seen a huge amount of growth with the peppers and one of my poor tomato plant looks done in.  Alas, all I can do is be patient and wait.

I guess that is the lesson, isn’t it?  patience, patience, patience.  Until I find the Impatients, here are some roses.

Everything is in bloom and it is time to take our spring portraits.  Today’s bloom is the first Calla Lilly flower emerging from the moist, shady soil by the porch.  We will call her Trudy Calla Lilly:  Say cheese Trudy!

Even dying tulips have beauty.

Parks helped pick today’s top three.  I am always blown away at how good his eye is, as well as his ability to intellectually verbalize the reasoning behind his decisions.  Below are the runners up and please feel free to offer any feedback.

It was a beautiful spring day (except for the winds), so I spent a little time checking on all the growing and goings on outside.  PCH was outside as well, playing in the water.  Give this kid a water hose and he is literally entertained for hours.  He was busy arranging rocks and putting the hose on them making fountains.  I, of course got the camera and captured the moment.

Watching my normally moody preteen jump with abandon really reminded me to appreciate how fortunate we have been in life.  We have been blessed with freedom and the ability to express joy.  I pray his world stays that way forever.  In the mean time, we shall splash away, and cherish the good times.

Water Sculpture

It is always fun to find two things that contradict each other and make them be together.  It is like forcing the eye to accept differences. It is my belief that if the world had less contradictions it would be more tolerant.  Artistically, this is my favorite concept.  Therefore, put the things that don’t belong until they match.

This was taken through an old window, frosted with age, out at the Farm.  It gives the photo a timeless quality.  I like how the light plays off the faucet and dripping water.  I  get a sense of sadness or loneliness viewed from the outside.
